Experience & Expertise

Breea Wainwright, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over a decade of experience providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health care to Black women, children, and families. She is endorsed in California as an Infant-Family Mental Health Specialist and a Reflective Practice Facilitator II, underscoring her expertise in early childhood and family systems. Breea’s clinical background includes extensive work with families in South Los Angeles, where she has supported clients in navigating complex challenges through evidence-based and culturally attuned care.

Breea’s clinical expertise is deeply rooted in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a transformative modality that fosters healing and strengthens caregiver-child relationships. She is also trained in Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy, which she uses to support mothers during the perinatal and postpartum periods. This specialized training allows Breea to address the critical intersection of maternal mental health and child development, empowering mothers to navigate the emotional challenges of pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and early parenthood while fostering secure attachments with their children.

In addition to her CPP training, Breea is Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) and trained in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), equipping her with a versatile range of therapeutic approaches to address depression, anxiety, and relationship challenges. Her integrative practice focuses on trauma recovery, attachment, and family dynamics, ensuring that each client receives personalized and effective care.

As Clinical Director and Co-Founder of the Black Girls Mental Health Collective Foundation (BGMHCF), Breea leads the organization’s clinical services, ensuring programs are both evidence-based and culturally affirming. She oversees a dedicated team of clinicians delivering trauma-informed care tailored to the unique needs of Black women and families. Breea provides clinical supervision for unlicensed clinicians working toward licensure and reflective practice supervision for those seeking endorsement in infant mental health, helping to foster the next generation of culturally attuned mental health professionals.

Breea is deeply passionate about creating safe and supportive spaces where Black mothers can address their mental health needs while strengthening connections with their children. Her work integrates evidence-based practices, including Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and trauma-focused interventions, with culturally responsive support systems. These initiatives reflect her belief that dismantling systemic barriers and building community resources are essential to achieving mental health equity.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Breea is a wife and proud mother of two children, a role that profoundly informs her work. Her personal experiences inspire her commitment to supporting mothers as they navigate the challenges of caregiving and mental health. Breea’s ability to balance her own family life with her dedication to community advocacy positions her as a relatable and compassionate leader in the field.

Looking ahead, Breea is focused on building capacity within the field of perinatal mental health to expand the representation of Black providers and promote racially concordant care. She is dedicated to training more clinicians in perinatal mental health and expanding services to support more Black women throughout their perinatal and postpartum journeys. Her vision includes fostering culturally attuned systems of care that honor the strengths and resilience of Black families, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to thrive. Through her clinical expertise, leadership, and advocacy, Breea continues to drive meaningful change, creating a legacy of healing and empowerment.
